Do you see a man diligent in his business? He shall stand before kings he shall not stand before ordinary man
So, on the 15th of this month, it would have been a year since I started blogging with the handle of the Lion’s pen on this site. So, after a year around 70 blog posts over 100 followers and me having no idea how to promote a blog (which probably means I haven’t been getting the maximum number of views I should be getting…I should work on that). This is a big deal for me since this was the third blog that I have created (and the first blog that I have consistently updated and kept up to date). So, (and I need to find a new way to start sentences) since you stuck around with me for this long I decided to share the story of how I got here.
Now, this is a story of how my life got flipped around…but that is another story.
So…now (now works right?) since this is me just me writing my experiences (and adding a bunch of things I hope are funny in brackets…because being serious in a thing like this is not something I am entirely comfortable with) this post will probably be less polished, for a measure of polished, than the other posts that I have created and probably longer than the others as well.
So let us begin.
Before the first blog. My entire life I have always been interested in creating stories whether it was creating stories that I act out with shadows and hand figures after church to creating covers for comics I wanted to create (but lacked the ability to, you know, actually draw) throughout my primary school years. I figured that if I ever got skilled enough to draw I could make my ideas come to pass beyond the images in my head (one of the stories that sticks in my head is when I saw a bunch of ants in primary school one day and turned the entire school into a fantasy world with the ants being the main characters wielding powerful magics and the ultimate enemy being human, being who absorb magic and use this ability to destroy the peaceful world that exists…yeah, I know this was a morbid story to come from a 10 years old. Also, this was also the time when everyone though I was weird). Unfortunately, things don’t always stay that way since school decided that being creative wasn’t good enough and I had to focus more on school than on my creations (not that it really helped since I only got my academic strides in university…also one day I got sick in class and threw up and after I got better and went back to class I couldn’t find the book with my drawings in them and sort of gave up after that). When I was in my early teenage years, around 13 or 14, I discovered that I also really liked poetry after seeing a group of boys write a song during a church camp. After that I decided to write poems and descriptions on the things around me just to keep the skill up. After hearing my mother talk about how she used to write when she was younger, but she didn’t keep the skill up and instead turned it to her academic career I decided to share my story with the world.
The first blog. This was a blog on blogspot.com (inspired by someone else’s blog on the platform), well actually it was more like 2 blogs one for my poems and on for me to wite my observations. I remember writing the poems and the observations in high school during class (looking back this was probably one of the many reasons I was a poor student) and then going to the laptop that the children of the family shared (you know since we were stupid kids who couldn’t be allowed to have our own stuff because we would break it…which we did…mostly my fault). The blog(s) failed completely, I had no idea what I was doing and while I was working hard, according to the wise words of Mori Calliope, just because you work hard doesn’t mean your work will be good. I would have worked harder to fix the blog but high school kind of got in the way…and I discovered anime like 2 weeks after I started the blog (another reason I was a poor student in high school) and well…anime happened my imagination sparked, and I went back to creating stories with the joy anime instilled in me. So, after 6 months, 2 followers and the most inconsistent uploading schedule ever the blog(s) were left to die.
The second blog came in my first year of university, I met a guy that inspired me to take up blogging again. I decided to focus on my observations since I wasn’t that confident in my poetry, I brought a bunch of posts from my old blog and go over them to make them better. I was ready and willing to make the blog a great thing…and then test week happened in school. After that I was ready and willing again to make the blog great, but then assignments, projects and other responsibilities made my uploading schedule became more and more erratic until the blog was just something I had and I told people I had (yes I was that guy that told people to check out his blog that hasn’t been updated in a couple years…but I changed and now tell no one about my blog that I spend a lot of time on).
The third blog came about because of Covid-19, I was bored, and I had no idea what I was going to do. University wasn’t happening, we weren’t able to leave our house and I felt stifled. I decided to start writing all the story ideas I had…and promptly got overwhelmed with just how many ideas I had so I decided to get back into blogging. When I went to my previous blog, I was disappointed by what I saw, I decided to burn it all down and start anew. I sent a message to my previous followers, all 12 of them (although there are still some followers I haven’t gotten back) and I haven’t looked back since then. Since 2020 was just special in its own way, I had a lot to talk about and the rest is history.
So that is the story of how I got here and hopefully I will be able to go even further in the next year. I have even started to write the more creative ideas I had (I really have to find a way to get the ant story done) although I haven’t started drawing again (honestly, I think it might be too late for me to be any good at drawing the weird things I imagine…or is it).
Anyway, please follow the blog and leave a like on this post.
